Joseph M. Coleman, ESQ.

(239) 330 - 1494

Mr. Coleman was born and raised in Naples, Florida, graduating from Barron Collier High School in 2008. After high school, he travelled to Tallahassee and earned two bachelor’s degrees in 2012, one in music and one in political science. After graduating from the Florida State University College of Law in 2015, Mr. Coleman returned home to Naples, working as an associate at a regional boutique civil litigation firm until joining the Boatman Law Firm in 2020. At his prior firm, Mr. Coleman spearheaded the firm’s intellectual property practice group, which included handling copyright infringement actions and assisting in the processing of copyright and trademark applications. Mr. Coleman also joined the Florida Bar’s Entertainment Arts and Sports Law Section, where he continually serves as the chairperson of the section’s student recruitment committee.

As a commercial litigator with an emerging specialty in intellectual property litigation, Mr. Coleman has been afforded the unique opportunity to handle a variety of different cases involving contract interpretation and enforcement issues, theft and embezzlement claims, contractor licensing disputes, settlement contract enforcement cases, construction defect litigation, defending and prosecuting fraud claims, copyright infringement actions, etc. Mr. Coleman has represented artists, innovators, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and consumers, from all walks of life, each with their own story to tell.

Mr. Coleman believes the “best” lawsuits are the ones that are never filed—very often, if the parties are open and honest with each other and communicate better, then costly judicial resolution becomes unnecessary. This is why most settlements occur far away from a courthouse. That being said, Mr. Coleman understands that sometimes the only way forward is through litigation. While the process can be difficult, stressful, taxing, and costly, it is much easier to navigate if you have an attorney who is always honest and upfront about the strength of your position, and who can always outline and explain the advantages and disadvantages of your potential options.

In his spare time, Mr. Coleman plays classical trumpet, travels, and writes. He is currently writing a book on Florida Contract Law.
